Shooting Stars New Year's manis

For this mani, I used China Glaze Black Diamond topped with Maybelline Shooting Stars, an awesome glitter top coat.  I wish I could capture this one on camera because in real life, it is just STUNNING.  I think the flash picked up the glitter too much.  In reality, the black shows through a lot more - it looks really pretty.  I will try to take some more pictures, because I'd really like to truly capture this one.  I may wear this for New Years Eve.

Here is another New Year's Eve glitter I tried out:

Fing'rs Nails - Edge and Flirt!

I am so excited because Fing'rs sent me all kinds of awesome nail products to try out.  I've been playing around with them for the past week and wanted to show you all how absolutely adorable they are.  Who knew press-on nails could be so much fun?

The first ones I tried out are part of Fing'rs Edge  line of glue or stick-on nails.  They come with nail glue and stick-on tabs.  The nail glue provides up to ten days of wear and the stick-on tabs are just for temporary wear.  I used the nail glue for these and found it worked really well.  I even opened tab-top cat food cans (3 daily!) with my nails and they didn't even budge - I am extremely impressed by that.  I have to admit, I haven't used glue on nails since elementary school - I just never liked the way they looked.  These are so much different than the fake nails I remember from my childhood - I just can't get over how real they look.  They look natural and actually stay on.  I am so impressed!  The french designs look so nice and they are so fun.  The nails were so easy to apply and the designs are really cute.  Each pack has 24 nails, so you can find the perfect size to fit each nail.

I've always had short, thin nails - I think it is a combination of genetics and diet (I'm a vegetarian).  For years (with fills every two weeks!) I wore acrylic nails - where the salon buffs away part of the natural nail and covers it with chemicals.  I finally gave those up three years ago and decided I'd just be stuck with short nails forever.  Enter Fing'rs.  I am just so in love with these nails.  I can have long, beautiful nails without damaging my actual nails - and these are so much more durable too!  Of course, Fing'rs are not just for people who have struggled with short nails forever.  The designs are great and these nails can be worn by anyone who wants fun nail designs that won't chip - and with no dry time!  Fing'rs are so versatile and cute :)

My favorite in the Fing'rs Edge line is the pink argyle.  They are subtle but so fun!  The design is neat, tidy, and so cute.  I got the most compliments on this design of all the nails too :)  I'm wearing this design today!

The french tip is thin and the base is a light pink.

These nails are the edgiest of the Fing'rs Edge nails I tried out.  I realized after I applied all ten nails that I had put the wrong nail on my middle finger - so that is something to watch out for with this design.  With the others I tried out, the designs work for left or right.  But I also think it is cool to have a different accent nail - although I would have preferred to have accidently done it on my ring finger!

The base color on this design looked the most natural to me, and I really liked the pink french design (you know I love pink!).  I think the angled black dot design looks so cool and makes these nails really fun.

The Fing'rs Edge blue check nails are shorter than the other nails - they are a very wearable length.  This length is great for those who want cute, durable nails but don't want the longer length.  While I liked the shorter length, the base color of this style was my least favorite of ones I tried.

Another great thing I discovered about these nails is that the design does not wear off.  I polished my sister's nails the other day, and when I got some polish on my perfectly manicured tip, I just rubbed it off with polish remover -- and my cute Fing'rs design stayed.  Also, I spend a lot of time typing (and we all know that wears away at our nails) and I have not seen any wear on my tips since trying these.  I think that is a GREAT feature, especially for those of us who spend a lot of time on the computer.  I also have done three loads of dishes wearing these, and they still look perfect.  Doing the dishes is the biggest threat to my manis - they ALWAYS chip when I do the dishes - I am really happy with how nice and neat these stay throughout those activities I do everyday.

These nails do not budge - the glue is amazing.  So I decided to try painting them after wearing the french designs for a few days.  They paint really well and when I removed the polish, the nails were as good as new!

Here are some of the ways I painted them:

Fing'rs also sent me some fun nail stickers.  Aren't they cute?

I LOVE these stickers.  They are flat designs with small rhinestones.  They peel off the sheet just like stickers, and stay put really well (polish remover didn't even remove them!).  The flatter designs did not require a top coat.

The rhinestones are already sticky, so I just removed them with a pair of tweezers, placed them, and topped them with Seche Vite dry fast top coat.  I had a hard time keeping them on my nails without the top coat.

I saw a ton of Fing'rs products at Walmart, and all the designs ranged in price from $5.00-$6.50 per pack.  On the website, they also have polka dot tips which I am desperate to find because I am OBSESSED with polka dots!  The nails are reusable too, which is awesome.  I really enjoyed playing around with these nails and I LOVE the designs.  They are so easy to apply and great to wear.

To learn more about Fing'rs Edge, visit: or check out the entire line at, ULTA, Walmart , CVS , or a variety of other stores.

What do you think of my Fing'rs nails?

China Glaze IDK - my mother's mani

China Glaze IDK
I LOVE this polish so much!!  I can't wait to get some more polishes from the China Glaze OMG! collection because they are just some of the most beautiful polishes I have ever seen.  This is my mom's manicure, and I really like it.  She used two coats of IDK as the base (and now wants me to buy her a bottle!) topped with Konad using Konad special black polish.

Isn't that coffee cup adorable??  My mom and I are both obsessed with polka dots!

New Year's Black Diamond Star Nails

China Glaze Black Diamond with Konad in China Glaze OMG

I've been trying out New Year's designs for the last few days, but I still haven't decided how to do my nails for Thursday.  I really like this design, even though it is fairly simple.  I have some fun glittery designs to share tomorrow.  I know I want to do something with stars or glitter - maybe gold?  What are your New Year's Eve nail plans?

My sister's awesome nails (and her cats)

I've been out of town (hence the lack of blog posts) visiting my family for the holidays.  While I've been here, I've talked my mom and sister into polishing with me a few times.  Here are some pictures of my sister's amazing (natural) nails.  We clearly inherited very different nail-genes!

My sister polished with China Glaze Black Diamond and used China Glaze OMG for her Konad design.  This is a kitten she is babysitting named Kobe - he was rescued in October.  Isn't he adorable?  He is so sweet!

She really wanted to get a picture with her cat, Peanut, but Peanut refused to look pretty for the camera - so here is Peanut's back!

This was my sister's Christmas mani.  She used China Glaze OMG for the base, China Glaze Ruby Pumps for the Konad candy cane, and Nicole Really, Really Red for the Konad design.

I have been painting New Year's nails today and yesterday - I'll post some pictures soon!  Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays!

China Glaze Ruby Pumps

China Glaze Ruby Pumps
Here is my polish from yesterday (and today!).  I love this one SO MUCH!
It applies beautifully, wears well, and just looks stunning.
This is one of my all-time favorites.

The glitter is amazing!

Can you tell I'm wearing fake nails?  Fing'rs sent me some fun nails that I have been playing around with - so I just painted right over them!  I LOVE having long nails!!

Hope everyone had a beautiful Christmas!!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

from the wonderful Caracita herself!

Click on Merry Christmas for an adorable Christmas message!

Have a great holiday, everyone,
and thank you all for following my blog :)

Cara is my friend, pet, inspiration, blog mascot, and web address:  I rescued her in 2004 from the wonderful rescue, Friends of Rocky Mount Animal Rescue (F O R Animals): .  No one had adopted Cara at the Rocky Mount animal control, so it was determined that she would be put to sleep.  F O R Animals rescued her that very day, and not long after, she came into my life when I was doing some volunteer work for the rescue.  Cara literally climbed up into my lap, and I fell in love instantly.  She has been my great friend and companion from that day, and I honestly can say my life would not be the same without her.  If you're thinking about getting a dog, check out their adoptable animals here: or visit for tons of other great adoptable rescue pets in your area!

Happy Holidays!!

Christmas Eve Nails

A quick look at my nails today:

OPI I Get a Kick Out of Gold & Nicole Really, Really Red
I Get a Kick Out of Gold is a really awesome gold - this is the most gorgeous gold I've ever used.  I adore it.  Really, Really Red is a perfect, spot-on red.
I'm totally loving this mani... but I still think I'm going to wear Ruby Pumps tomorrow.

Happy Holidays!

A very Charlie Brown Christmas Eve

Merry Christmas Eve!  Since we are so close to Christmas, I figured it was time to share the one thing I really want this year gift-wise (aside from polka dot rain boots, that is).
A Charlie Brown Christmas Tree!

This one is from Target, and it's been sold out for a few weeks.  Glad so many people are taking the Charlie Brown Christmas spirit to heart this year and remembering that Christmas is about more than the gifts - it is about the time spent with others.
(although the whole buy-a-Charlie-Brown-tree kind of goes against the entire purpose of Charlie Brown's tree...)

So in the spirit of Charlie Brownness, I made my own Charlie Brown tree!

I used a pink ornament instead of a red one :)
My base is a repurposed citronella candle and the 'tree' is a branch that broke off a Christmas tree my parents bought live and planted in their yard after the holidays nearly thirty years ago.  If I had made the ornament from recycled soda cans, this tree would have been total awesomeness - but I still think it is pretty great.

In my online perusals, I came across this great contest:

Here are my favorite entries:

This group gathers each year to decorate this sad-looking city-owned tree that grows in a median (of what looks like a pretty busy area of town).  How Charlie Brown is that?  Caring for a neglected tree?  Totally Charlie Brown!

This is a future seeing eye dog with his or her Charlie Brown Christmas tree.  Helping others?  I call that a Charlie Brown kind of thing to do (and if the dog's name is Snoopy, two bonus points!).  I love the way the dog is eying up the tree in this picture.

Want to get into the Charlie Brown Christmas spirit?  Pop the classic Vince Guaraldi Trio's "A Charlie Brown Christmas " into your CD player or download a few tracks.  It's my favorite music to listen to at Christmastime and it always gets me in the Christmas spirit.  Have a wonderful holiday all, and take a moment to remember what this time of year is really about.

Warm Wishes,

Maybelline Merlot Magic

I've really been breaking out all my old polishes lately!  I believe this one came in a set with Mirror Magic that I purchased on clearance around 8-9 years ago.  When I was younger, I pronounced it "Mer-lot" Magic, not realizing the 't' was silent (and that Merlot was a type of wine -- not the name of a magician, as I assumed).

Maybelline Merlot Magic

It is a nice, deep red and really, now that I know what merlot is, this polish is spot on!
I used two coats topped with a Creative top coat (such a slow drying top coat, ugh).

Hope everyone is having a nice Wednesday!

Maybelline Mirror Magic with Holly

Good afternoon all!

I did this design over the weekend, so I thought I'd share (I'm still wearing my China Glaze Ruby Pumps mani and I got 3 compliments on it today!).  This is Maybelline Mirror Magic, with little holly bunches using Ruby Pumps and Zoya Veruschka.  Hope everyone is having a nice Tuesday!

I'm not a huge fan of Maybelline polishes - they don't apply too well, but I've had this color for a long time and used to use it quite often.  It's a really nice silver.

Hope everyone is having a nice day!

China Glaze Ruby Pumps, Holly, and a Christmas Tree

Happy Holidays all!

J and I finally decorated our skinny little tree, after which I painted my nails and watched a Food Network Challenge Christmas Special (and he snuck off to watch football).  So through decorating the tree, listening to some Christmas tunes, and watching a Christmas-themed show, I was finally starting to feel in the holiday spirit.  I feel like Christmas has just snuck up on me this year and for the first time in my life, I am completely unprepared for the holiday!  Yikes.  But I wanted to share my holiday-inspired nails in gorgeous China Glaze Ruby Pumps:

As you can probably see, I started out by doing red tips.  But when I tried to line them in silver, I just wasn't loving it, so I painted them all red -- except my ring finger, where I painted a little holly berry and leaf bunch.

This isn't the most lovely mani, since there are two coats on my tips and one on the rest of my nails, but I still thought they were cute enough to share.

Christmas tree!!
(and the silver lining - I left it on my thumb nail)

Here is our little tree!  We got a fake one this year, because by Christmas last year, we had more pine needles on the floor than on the tree (no joke) and the real tree cost almost as much as this fake one.  Plus, this one is so cute and fits into our little corner so well!

Hope everyone had a nice weekend -- and have a great Monday!
At least this is a short work week :)

Polish Collection

Since I needed to reorganize my polishes, I decided to pull them all out and get a collection picture.  After I finished, I wished I had done it on my glass table so I could have taken a picture from underneath too - wouldn't that have been cool?

I also counted my polishes (including all duplicate/backups) and I have... 145.  Yikes!  But I keep telling myself that isn't too many, since I recently read at Getcha Nails Did that Scrangie has over 3,000.  So I don't have too many :)

Enjoy looking at my collection!

Here are my OPI, Zoya, and China Glaze polishes:

China Glaze:

I guess I will call this "everything else"
Includes Essie, Color Club, Sally Hansen, NYC, New York Summer, Orly, and others

I also wanted to take a moment to thank all of the people who check out my blog, both followers and those that don't have blogger accounts.  A friend on the Purse Forum sent me a message to tell me that she reads my blog everyday, which was such a great surprise.  I really, really appreciate all of you who stop by here to check out my blog daily, weekly, or sporadically (and those of you I pester into checking my blog -- sorry mom!).  It is really fun sharing my polish (and occasional ramblings) and I really appreciate that you all come by to check it out.  THANK YOU!!
