Essie Matte About You... and a smorgasbord of mattified polishes

Essie Matte About You

When I first heard about the matte polish trend, I was less than excited.  I like my nails slick and shiny, like a new car.  Really, who wants to buy a matte car?

Given my love of shine and glitter, it took me a while to appreciate matte nails.  And at first, that was it - an appreciation.  But recently, I've been having a bit of a matte polish craving.  It just looks so sleek and almost luminous - like the colors have a glow from within.

So I decided to order Essie's Matte About You.  I figured that it would give me an oppurtunity to try out the matte trend without buying tons of matte polishes, since Matte About You is a mattifying top coat.  After polishing, you just brush it over top of nails to turn any polish matte.

And the verdict?  I not only love matte nails but I'm obsessed with Matte About You.  It's incredible!

I love how it looks matte!

More matte!

The matte finish over the glitter looks amazing.
It becomes speckled (not sparkled) and the black shows up more.

Matte

I feel like the matte shows up much more on darker polishes - but it still makes a differences on lighter colors like these (aside from Short & Sassy).

So tell me.  What do you think about matte?

Brooke! Everything looks pretty cool matte. I think I need to find me a bottle now. They keep on selling out at my ulta...I have to do a better job stalking them :-)

Thanks!! I love how it makes polishes look totally different. I hope you're able to find it soon! I got mine through Transdesign for just $5.

Sweet OPI score!
I just got my hands on OPI DS Ruby, but it's kind eh, maybe too pink on me.

Thanks Kate! I don't have DS Ruby but I looked up a picture and it looks really pretty (but as I'm sure you can tell, I'm obsessed with pink, lol).

It's about halfway between pink and red with a bit of glitter in it, but I have red hair and really pale skin, so any kind of pink is a fail on me. Still, OPI is wonderful regardless.

Ohh, well still sounds pretty! I know what you mean though - I'm fair with freckles so sometimes certain pinks and reds look REALLY bad with my skin tone!

I love playing with matte top coat. It is amazing to see how a polish like Ruby Pumps changes texture and dimension when you mattify it. Love the OPI you showed, I have never seen it before.

Thanks so much Mighty Lambchop!! It really is amazing to see how the polishes change. I've been a little tempted to matte every polish I wear now, just to see how it looks! Plus it's awesome that you can add a top coat and take the polish back to glossy. It really makes polish so much more versatile to have a matte top coat :)
Thanks about Fee Fi Fo Plum! I love the OPI oldies :)
