Traveling the path less taken

How was your weekend?  Mine has been wonderful.  I spent Friday working on my paper and straightening up my house with my mom, and then my friend Yildiz and her boyfriend, Arthur, came over for dinner.  It was nice to be social - I've been so wrapped up in this paper and work that I've been avoiding friends.

Saturday morning I hung out with my mom, then J and I (and the dogs) discovered that we live about half of a mile from an AWESOME hiking spot.  We've got miles and miles of trails in a state park just steps away from our house - how had we never noticed this before??  We took the dogs on a 2.5 mile hike (which went down to a river, so Emily got some swimming time in).  It was fantastic.  I mean absolutely fantastic.  Hiking is one of the most wonderful things (after horseback riding, of course).  I just can't believe we have all these trails so close to home.
Since I'm writing about Whitman and Dickinson and mapping America, I felt it really helped me to get out in nature and try to identify with this America - to be one of the roughs.  It was also really helpful getting out in the wild and just relaxing.  It was fantastic.  So I came home and tried to write - and I wrote some (and deleted some too).

So Sunday morning Emily, Cara, J, and I did the same thing - more walking.  This time we decided to take a diverging trail (a barely forged diverging trail - perhaps merely just a deer trail), but it was a ridiculously long detour that lead to nowhere, so we doubled back and went around the same loop as the day before.  After our 2 hour hike, we came home, had lunch, and I got to work.  Then I had dinner with some great friends (again, great to be social, although I felt guilty about leaving my paper).  It was really nice seeing everyone though.  Now I'm writing - trying to stay awake, and writing.  Writing, deleting, and editing.  And writing some more.

PS: I polished.  A beautiful blue from a friend, Kathy.  And then I lost two of my fake nails while hiking - so I never got to photograph it!  But this evening I painted Suzi Says Feng Shui with some glitter on top (basically because the glitter was sitting out and my topcoat was stored away).  I'll redo the blue soon and have pictures :)

So how was your weekend?  Did you discover something new?  Meet a goal?  See a great friend?  Or perhaps just rest and relax?  I hope you did something wonderful too!

Looks like you had a great weekend!

My weekend was mostly just relaxing and running errands, yours sounds much better!

I love hiking too, except in my part of the world it's called fell walking. I come from a part of England called the Lake District that's full of hills and mountains and it is so amazing to get out and up a fell. Sadly I don't live there at the moment so I don't get to go very much. Instead I take runs around the city, which is beautiful in a different way.

This weekend I did ZILCH though, just some chores and my driving lesson :D It looks like you had a much more productive one.
