I'm obsessed...

With Twilight!

And with reading in general, for that matter.  As absolutely depressing as this is, I haven't done any reading for fun (aside from blogs and magazines) since LAST SUMMER.  And even then, I only found one book last year that I love-loved (and the ending was only ok - but even still, The Story of Edgar Sawtelle=great read).

So Twilight.
I watched the movie when it appeared in our local Redbox last fall.  I liked it.  I saw the more recent movie more recently (J slept through it; clearly I liked it more than he did).  Vampires have never really been my thing.  I really enjoyed Bram Stoker's Dracula in my undergrad Irish Lit course, but I've never really read any other vampire books (or had any interest in doing so).

This was all my sister's fault.
Her friend was shocked that she hadn't read Twilight.  So shocked that she went and bought my sister a copy of Twilight.  My sister devoured it and then anxiously awaited the arrival of New Moon through PaperBackSwap (which she blew through - during finals week).  On Friday, she coerced my mom and I into picking up a copy of Eclipse at BJs for her.

"What's the fascination?" I asked her.
She handed me her copy of Twilight.  I started reading it way late on Saturday night (I guess it was really Sunday morning) after getting home from a night out with friends, hoping it would put me to sleep.  On Sunday morning, I woke up and kept reading.  And reading, and reading, and reading.  I'm on page 441 today and slowing down because I hate reaching the end of books.
Granted, the audience is clearly geared to someone younger than I am - but I still love it.  It is an enjoyable story, much like Harry Potter (I'm an HP addict), and I am just so happy to have a book to read that I really, really enjoy.

Have you read Twilight?  Are you obsessed?  Or have you been like I was - rather ambivalent to the whole Twilight fascination?

I am chugging through The Story of Edgar Sawtelle now- it kind of got put on the back burner because I have so many books that I got to read, that I'm reading a few at once. I love reading too though, I just ordered three more books online. An author I have really been enjoying lately is Jennifer Weiner, although her books are the lighter type, more chic.

I haven't read or seen anything Twilight related. My husband has threatened a divorce if I get into it (he's kidding obviously) but my brother's girlfriend has offered to lend me all the books so...

I haven't read the books (well, all exept new moon) after I've seen the first part- I like the last one best, the third is a close second, the 1st and then new moon because I really hate her depressed-mood/time

Team Edward forevah!! ;) I am a Twi-Geek....all the way. I was at the theater, midnight for the very first showing of New Moon and it'll be the same for Eclipse too. I'm almost 30 by the way. lol Oh, and I love your nails and color choices btw. :)

Oh I'm such a twihard! :) I've been completely obsessed since July 2008. I must have about 20 tshirts, and several pieces of jewelry. :) I went to the midnight shows of the first two films, and already have my ticket for the third movie. I read for pleasure every day, and am also a huge HP fan (though I never got obsessive like w/ Twilight). Of course, I've always loved vampires, and Buffy and Angel have been two of my favorite shows since they started airing. Welcome to the club, and I envy your discovery of the next three books! :)

I really didn't know anything Twilight related until I watched the movie. Next day, I bought the book.

next day after that, I bought the other three books. I finished it all in 4 days!

Have you checked out their make up collection? I blogged about it here:

Jennifer, glad you like Edgar Sawtelle!!! I read one Jennifer Weiner book (can't remember the name but I liked it). Do you have any good book suggestions? I'd love to know some of your longtime and recent favorites!! I really need some books to read for the summer!!

Jeweled Thumb - I NEVER thought I'd like it - you really need to read some of your brother's girlfriend's books :)

amusedpolish - I agree, I get kind of annoyed by how depressed and moody she is (and how moody Edward can be), so I'm glad you like the coming ones more than the one I just finished - I have something to look forward to!!

Kim, hahaha, my sister already has tickets for the midnight Imax showing of Eclipse!!! lol. I'm not sure what side I've chosen yet... not sure if I'm team Edward or team Jacob (although I certain LOVE Edward's looks though!!). Thanks about the nails too :)

awww, Teresa, love your comment!!! You sound awesome!! I bet you would have some good books to suggest for my summer reading list - I am SO EXCITED to have time to read now - it rocks!! enjoy the midnight showing!!! I can't wait to see it :D

shouting in the wind, sounds like me (although I was WAY slower to catch on than you!!) - and not nearly as fast a reader as you are - goodness, 4 books in 4 days? amazing! I'm heading to your blog to check out the makeup!!!! :)

Skulda, haha, I knew I'd find a non-Twilight lover eventually!! Although you never know how many Vampires are living near you up in Canada - from these books, it sounds like northern US and Canada are loaded with them ;) lol.

I haven't read any of the Twilight books but I have seen the first two movies. They were enjoyable enough. Enough so that if I happen across the books cheap, I will pick them up and read them.

I usually like my vamps a little darker... Think Anne Rice, True Blood... But the sparkly vamps are fun, too. :D

I have read a couple of Harry Potter books and have seen several of the movies. While not my normal cup of tea, they are fun for a little light excapeism. :)

I got into Twilight unexpectedly. I didn't understand what all the hype was about either. Last summer I was soooo bored at work a coworker suggested I read it. I reluctantly took it, but as I read more and more I got into it. I saw the movie before the book so I went and bought the movie! :-) Then I bought new moon. Next I want to add eclipse and breaking dawn to my collection.

I have read them all and they are all good reads. I think they get better as you go through - Breaking Dawn (the last one) is my favourite.
Bella bugs me but for some reason, but I just couldn't put the books down.

If you like HP too, try reading 'His Dark Materials' trilogy by Phillip Pullman - Northern Lights/The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass.
Don't let the film of The Golden Compass put you off, they are such amazing fantasy stories and really good summer reads. x

both hands up..

i am one twilight fanatic. my then officemate sent me ebooks of it and i read twilight and new moon in less than 2weeks. i made sure to finish the book before watching the movie (which i think i shouldnt have done because i was looking for everthing thats missing yet completely undrstanding the fact that you cant put all the 400 and so pages in a 2hour movie). anyway, right in the middle of reading eclipse from the ebook, i was dying to get copies of the books and it was all sold out because that was the time it was to be shown on theaters. i searched high and low and paid more than the usual just so my hands can have all 4 books!

im re-reading when i have free time so i can use the books i bought. technically i read twi, new m and half of eclpse from the ebooks and the rest on my actual books so the books arent used yet. haha. talk about addiction. and sorry for the long post ^_^

Enjoy reading and tell me which book you liked best.

Also, if you're trying the make up, please let us know!! :)

I tried to resist but eventually gave in when a friend gave me the first book as a gift - I was promptly hooked, and proceeded to hook others including my mom, aunt, and random people around the office. They're fun books & I can't wait for Eclipse! I don't think I'll make the midnight show but me & mom will definitely be at the theater opening weekend.

On the more mature flip-side of the vampire coin, I am practically bouncing in my seat because Bullet comes out today! (The latest in the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series IF you didn't know) & then Season 3 of True Blood in less than 2 weeks!

I didn't get what all the hype was either, so I decided I'm going to read these books and see what it’s all about. I read about half of the first one in the airport and put it down and didn't think of it again for another 3 weeks. Once I got home I started reading again and I was hooked and that was the beginning of the end for me. I went through the remaining 3 in about a week and a half lol. But I refuse to give that woman any of my money, so I won’t see Eclipse in theatres and I'll wait for it to come out at Netflix :( It's a sickness really.

Oh and yay for True Blood June 13th!!!!

Teresa said...

LOL, thanks, Brooke - you sound pretty awesome yourself! :) Love your blog - forgot to mention that before!!
I have a ton of books, so if you'd like some suggestions pls feel free to email me at indieamazonprincess at yahoo dot com

I second Sammersaurus - His Dark Materials trilogy is really good. Theh Vampire Diaries are ok, even more "fluff" reading than Twilight, but without the strong appeal, imo - the TV show is vastly superior, which is extremely rare. Books almost always beat out the film/tv version of things. Another anomaly is True Blood - again the show is better than the books, but by a much smaller margin. :)

If you're looking for more vampire stuff, I must have about 8 different series. If you're looking for other fantasy or sci fi stuff I have a lot of that too. But that's pretty much where my interests stop, with the exception of some mysteries/detective stories. :)

I find young adult fiction to be really well done these days, and I have Harry Potter (JK Rowling) to thank for expanding my horizons in that way. :) Of course, I really like my pleasure reading to be all about pure escapism, so no serious books for me. :)

gosh how I can ramble on!! :)

I've read many of the latest vampire series. The Twilight series was fun, I enjoyed reading it before I went to sleep at night. I enjoyed the whole series. But honestly, I like "Host" way better. Stephanie rocked with that book, I don't know why it doesn't get the love it deserves and I wish there were a sequel for it as well.
The True Blood Series was so-so, and the tv show is ruining it.
I LOVE Rachel and Ivy and Jenks in the Hollows Series by Kim Harrison and the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs pretty much kicks ass.
Hope you'll give those a chance. They make Twilight a bit of an introduction into better things. :)

I loved the Twilight series!
I read the first 3 Books in 6 days, on my way to and from work =P
I can't wait for Eclipse to come out in the movie theater, as the previews and the soundtrack are amazing.
The novella "The Second life of Bree Tanner" came out today and you can read it online here: http://ld-breetannerbook.libredigital.com/index.html which is great that it is available online free of charge.

I love reading teen fiction, and especially reading authors' first books, it is such a thrill to discover a new voice. it is great when the author's voice comes right through the page, and creates such clear images in your head. Twilight did this for me, and Harry Potter did that too. JK Rowling wrote things so clearly that I could see them in my minds' eye, it is a wonderous thing.

I am Twilight obsessed. I went to the first movie after seeing the commercials that looked interesting. I loved the movie and brought the book and read it in one night. The next day I went to get the rest of the books but due to some truck accident in Austrailia, New Zealand didn't have the books for weeks which is probably where the obsession started. But when the movies, books or DVDs are released it engulfs my life. I LOVE twilight, I'm 23 and I'm not ashamed lol.
