Brooke Cooks - Margherita Pizza

I am obsessed with homemade pizza - I make it at least once a week.  I normally make margherita pizza because I love fresh mozzarella.  I prefer to use spaghetti sauce instead of pizza sauce because I think it is more flavorful, but it can be a bit thinner than pizza sauce.

1 package yeast
4 tablespoons honey
1 1/2 cups warm water
3 tablespoons olive oil
3 1/4 cups flour
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
Pizza or spaghetti sauce
8 oz fresh mozarella
2 diced plum tomatoes

Soften yeast in warm water with honey for about 10 minutes.  Mix yeast with olive oil, flour, and some of the basil; add flour until dough is no longer sticky.  Place in an oiled bowl and turn; let rise for about one hour.  Divide into two and roll out.

Bake on a greased pizza pan or cookie sheet for about 10 minutes at 350 degrees.  Top with pizza sauce and mozzarella.  Bake for 8-10 minutes, then top with tomatoes and remaining basil.  Let cool for about 5 minutes, then serve.  Enjoy!

Now I'm hungry for pizza, lol!

Thanks for posting your recipe. Traditionally Margherita pizza is made without Mozzarella here in Germany but this looks so yummy I will have to try it.

Thanks Deez Nails - and as always, so nice to hear from you :) Hope you're doing great!!

Thanks Alice!!

Chester, how interesting! I started making margherita pizza after trying it at an Italian restaurant called Bertucci's. I make mine a lot like they do, but I've had different versions elsewhere. I'd love to hear how it turns out if you try it!
